SCOPE OF PROJECT
User Experience, Interface Design
TOOLS
Figma, Adobe After Effects, UCD Design System
ENVISIONED FUTURE STATE
CURRENT STATE

The current state is visually outdated, and using the term 'username' confuses users regarding their three main types of identification: student email, username, and student ID.

CURRENT PROBLEMS
While auditing how the current SSO system faires versus other SSO systems, I found the following problems with the UCD SSO:

Poor Visual Design (i.e: padding, poor color choices not meeting WCAG accessibility standards)

Potentially confusing copy

Small Text

PROCESS
I started off by looking at what top companies do in terms of the log in experience. By looking at what these sign-in experiences provided, it gave me a clear insight on how to proceed moving forward.

EXPERIENCE DESIGN
I felt that it was important to keep all the existing components of the current SSO system. However I elected to make the following changes to ensure experience and security:
Showing one text input form at a time
If a student inputs their email or user ID incorrectly, they would have immediate validation feedback.

Security Enhancements
Integrating 2FA into the system itself reduces chances of synchronization issues between the SSO system and DUO (the 2FA provider).

Loading State
Reduces frustration with users who experience longer than usual loading times but don't see anything to show a back-end loading process.
